The Navy to Give Preloaded eReaders to Sailors

nerdThe Navy General Library Program (NGLP) is making eBooks available to sailors through a new partnership with digital book delivery service Findaway World.

The company is allowing the Navy to preload eReaders with books and lend the devices to sailors. The devices are nicknamed “NeRD” and come preloaded with 300 titles. were developed as part of the Navy’s Morale Welfare and Recreation program. The catalog includes eBooks in various genres including bestsellers, classics, professional development and entertainment, all chosen by the Navy.

“Navy Installations Command is constantly seeking to provide our proud Sailors around the world with new tools and resources that can enrich their lives,” explained Nellie Moffitt, Navy General Library program manager in a statement. “NeRD addresses this goal head-on, with a library of digital titles in a convenient and secure package that circumvents longstanding NGLP challenges in content storage.”
