Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of the American publication of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
The famed French aviator’s children’s novella has been translated into more than 250 languages and dialects. The Little Prince‘s official Facebook page has attracted 1.1 million “likes.”
To commemorate this anniversary, we’ve put together a list of five ideas on how fans can celebrate…
1. Visit the Museum of The Little Prince in Hakone, Japan. Explore the establishment’s park, outdoor sculptures, and the indoor exhibition.
2. Sit for a Little Prince movie marathon. Over the years, several filmmakers have created movie and television adaptations of the novella.
3. Plan a trip to the nearest telescope and go stargazing. In 2003, a small asteroid moon was dubbed “Petit Prince” in honor of the book.
4. Karaoke, anyone? Singer Regina Spektor recorded a Little Prince-inspired song called Baobabs.

The Little Prince was first published in the U.S. on April 6, 1943, by Reynal & Hitchcock, which was absorbed in 1948 by Harcourt, Brace. To celebrate the book’s 70th anniversary, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is bringing out three new editions: an anniversary gift set, a young adult paperback, and a paper-over-board edition of Joann Sfar’s graphic novel adaptation.
The special anniversary gift set includes a hardcover edition of the book and an audiobook narrated by Lord of the Rings film trilogy actor Viggo Mortensen. Listeners will hear Mortensen reading the unabridged text of Richard Howard’s 2000 French-to-English translation.
