The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Adapted in 1993 Finnish Miniseries

As the fantasy world awaits the often-delayed adaptation of The Hobbit, the science fiction site io9 dug up an English translation of a Finnish miniseries that adapted J. R. R. Tolkien’s work way back in 1993.

Here’s more about the adaptation: “Hobitit was a nine-episode miniseries that covered The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. It didn’t actually take place in Helsinki, but it did depict Gollum as a Finnish man imitating a homeless lime. Here’s the subtitled first episode. It’s not bad for a modestly budgeted early 90s TV movie — also, please pay heed to Gandalf’s totally boss ‘stache.”

The episode embedded above contains English subtitles, added by a helpful fan. The post contains details about how to watch the rest, in Finnish.
