The Guardian Reveals First Book Award Longlist

the guardianThe £10,000 Guardian First Book Award recognizes the debut publication of a writer each year. The 2014 longlist includes five fiction titles, five non-fiction titles, and a short story collection.

The Guardian will announce the shortlist in late October, and the winner will be revealed in December. The fiction titles are: Young Skins by Colin Barrett;  In the Light of What we Know by Zia Haider Rahman; The Night Guest by Fiona McFarlane; After Me Comes the Flood by Sarah Perry; and We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas

The nonfiction titles on the list are: Iceberg by Marion Coutts; Bricks and Mortals by Tom Wilkinson; Age of Ambition by Evan Osnos; Do No Harm by Henry Marsh; and American Interior by Gruff Rhys. The short story collection which is nominated for the Reader’s Choice award is Things to Make and Break by May-Lan Tan.
