The Deaths Behind Famous Poets: INFOGRAPHIC

By Maryann Yin

The team behind the My Poetic Side social network researched the deaths of 239 poets. They showcased the information they uncovered in an infographic called “CSI Poetry: The Life and Death — OK Just Death — Of Poets.”

The piece features several high-profile writers including Phillis Wheatley, John Keats, and George Bernard Shaw. We’ve embedded the full image below for you to explore further—what do you think?

Here’s more from the My Poetic Side blog post: “You will see that cancer is the most common cause of death, with 12 per cent of poets suffering this fate. Of course, there are some poets that died of ‘unknown’ causes. This can be because there is some mystery surrounding their death. However, in most cases, it is because it can be difficult to clarify information from the centuries ago, as a lot of the data is ambiguous.”
