Curious Incident Cover (GalleyCat)The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has been pulled as a summer reading assignment at a Florida-based secondary school.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the decision was initiated by Lincoln High School principal Allen Burch who received complaints from parents concerning “the foul language and the religious skepticism.” Burch did not present this issue before a committee; he reasoned that this act of censorship was done to “give the opportunity for the parents to parent.”

In an interview with The Guardian, Mark Haddon, the author behind this young adult novel, expressed his confusion “by the way in which some readers remain untroubled by the content of a novel but deeply offended by the language in which it is described.” This book has been the subject of banning on numerous occasions.
