That’s Really Super, Supergirl

supergirl-cliochang.jpgOne of the best guilty pleasures in my RSS feed is Project Rooftop, a site where comics artists do their damnedest to make superhero costumes a little more fashion-forward. All this week, they’ve been paying tribute to Supergirl, taking the best illustrations from a previous invitation to re-design the character and subjecting them to a panel of artists. The version at right, from Canadian artist Clio Chang, was one that drew universal praise from the experts, heralded as “a breath-taking, lovely drawing” by one judge, while another zoomed in on the perfect details: “I like the length of the sleeves on the shirt. Not a t-shirt, but not long sleeves…about 3/4. I don’t know why my eyes went there first, but there you have it.” And some of the other designs from the last four days are pretty awesome, too; there’s at least three or four I wouldn’t mind seeing replace the current iteration actually appearing in DC Comics.
