Teen Vogue is Starting a Book Club

By Dianna Dilworth

Teen Vogue has launched a new book club.

To get the magazine started, Actresses Yara Shahidi and Rowan Blanchard have picked up their favorite book as the first month’s selection: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.

“I first read Their Eyes Were Watching God for freshman English class and couldn’t put it down,” Yara stated. “From the symbolism of protagonist Janie Crawford’s doomed romances to hair politics, Zora Neale Hurston’s book taught the importance of embracing every facet of yourself. Janie overcomes stifling social norms, bad relationships, and even bad weather before she’s able to shed her obsession with society’s expectations.”

Shahidi and Blanchard will chat about the book with Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth, on the magazine’s Facebook page on Thursday at 1:30 p.m ET.
