Suzy Gershman Has Died

Suzy Gershman, the author of of Frommer’s Born to Shop book series, and a well-known travel-shopping columnist for magazines has died.

The New York Times has the sad news: “Ms. Gershman died of cancer last Wednesday in San Antonio at 64, said Sarah Lahey, who for the last eight years helped Ms. Gershman research and write the books.”

In her shopping guides, Gershman wrote about the best places to shop in cities around the globe from “world-class department stores to bargain basements.” She wrote shopping guides to Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Italy, among other places.

On her Facebook page, she described herself: “I’m just your usual globe-trotting, widowed, not-so-desperate-housewife and mother struggling to make a dime and get back to Paris. Just moved back to San Antonio, my home town– have paid off the house because Suze Orman said to do so– it was easy, all I had to do was sell my home in France!”
