Novelist Suzanne Collins has given her official blessing to the upcoming adaptation of her book, The Hunger Games.

In a Facebook note to fans, she wrote: “I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another.” She praised the cast in her note, exclaiming “And, my God, the actors.” She singled out lead actor Jennifer Lawrence for being “absolutely wonderful across the board.”

In the last 24 hours, her note has generated an AP news story, over 9,000 likes on Facebook and nearly 750 comments.

Finally, Collins explained the main differences between the book and the movie: “The film opens up the world beyond Katniss’ point of view, allowing the audience access to the happenings of places like the Hunger Games control room and President Snow’s rose garden, thereby adding a new dimension to the story. Director Gary Ross has created an adaptation that is faithful in both narrative and theme, but he’s also brought a rich and powerful vision of Panem, its brutality and excesses, to the film as well.”

The film will be released on March 23. According to IndieWire, “experts are saying it could open between $70 and $100 million” this month.
