Suzanne Collins’ Life-Changing Series

By Maryann Yin

Author Suzanne Collins’ life was only recently changed with the release of Mockingjay, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy. Although sales for The Hunger Games and Catching Fire have topped the million mark, Mockingjay solidified Collins’ celebrity status.

The Associated Press had a quote from Collins: “‘I started to get calls from people I didn’t know, at my home number, which at the time was listed and we had never thought anything about it … ‘Nothing threatening happened or anything, but it is your home and you want it to be private. So I think that was the point where I felt, ‘Oh, something different is happening now.””

Collins said she can still walk in the street unnoticed, but with the film adaptation on the way, she has achieved a level of fame experienced by very few authors. She has entered an exclusive club of kidlit phenomenon authors; club members include J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer. Wizards, vampires, and dystopia–what will be the next kidlit series trend?
