Stephen King Raising Money to Heat Homes for Low Income Families

By Jason Boog

Novelist Stephen King hopes to raise up to $140,000 to help low income residents heat their homes this year. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has reduced Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds in Maine from $55.6 million last year to $23 million this year, a dramatic decrease for families struggling to heat their homes.

Here’s more from the novelist: ““We’ll match up to $70,000 of the amount raised … This economy is terrible and Tabitha and I both worry so much about Bangor because it truly is a working-class town and we are always looking for ways to help, and right now this is a great need.”

If you want to donate to the campaign, you can call (207) 990-2800 to donate by credit card through King’s radio stations. Or you can mail (or deliver) checks to Help Keep ME Warm ZONE Radio, 861 Broadway, Bangor 04401. (Picture via; link via)
