Spend All Day Writing for Charity!

write-a-thon-logo.gifThe NY Writers Coaliton is looking for volunteers for its 2nd annual Write-A-Thon June 9 at the Small Press Center (or, as it’s about to rebrand itself, the New York Center for Indeependent Publishing). So far, the organization has raised nearly $8,500 from writers at all levels of experience who’ve gotten friends to sponsor them in an all-day writing session that offers free workshops, motivational boosts, and a guest appearance by National Novel Writing Month founder Chris Baty. The funds raised will go to Writers Coalition programs that help at-risk youth, homeless people, and the formerly incarcerated, among other groups, give voice to their experiences through guidance in creative writing. You’ll need to raise a minimum of $100 to take part in the event, but prizes are available to the top fundraisers, from a sampler of Akashic Books titles to free memberships at writing centers in Union Square and Park Slope.
