SMBC Web Comic Raises $195,000+ on Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

Web comic artist Zachary Weiner has raised more than $195,000 on Kickstarter for his anthology, Science: Ruining Everything Since 1543 (An SMBC Collection).

The basic book will contain more than 100 SMBC comic strips that focus on science and scientists. Weiner’s original goal was to raise $20,000. Now that he has more funds to work with, he’ll be adding in several exclusive comics to the finalized book.

We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think?

Here’s more about the project: “SMBC (short for “Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal”) is a daily-updated comic strip about all sorts of topics. Its author, Zach Weinersmith, is a giant dork who also has many other geeky projects such as producing SMBC Theater, writing for Snowflakes, his science blog the Weinerworks, and his science-themed podcast The Weekly Weinersmith (which he co-hosts with his wife, the parasitologist Kelly Weinersmith). So it will come as no huge surprise that this, the third SMBC printed collection, is a compendium of his finest science-related strips.”
