Social networking is like writing a novel. It looks easy and lots of people try it–but only a few writers actually succeed.
Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu was Mike Pifferrer, host and producer of Sirius XM Hits 1 on Sirius XM Radio. He talked about publishing headlines, including director Kevin Smith’s 24-hour Twitter marathon to support his upcoming book and novelist James Patterson’s stunning 17-book deal with Hachette.
Around the 7:45 mark, Pifferrer had this advice about building better relationships with readers through social networking: “Literally it’s hard work. It’s putting your nose to the grindstone. You need to answer as many people as possible and make yourself available. The most important thing is to give the aura that you are just like them, you are a normal person who just happens to be doing what you are doing. Because the minute you step up to that next level where you are untouchable, it takes a new shape and form.”
