Riding a recent tidal wave of social networking initiatives, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing and Simon & Schuster Digital introduced a new community-oriented Pulse It website today.

The social networking site is aimed at teenagers from 14-to18, allowing them to read books, chat, review titles, and communicate with S&S authors online. The site also includes video interviews, like that interview with author Scott Westerfeld. Access depends on registration, an interesting experiment for publishing websites of the future.

Here’s a statement from Simon & Schuster Children’s Division’s publisher Jon Anderson: “The new Pulse It provides its teen members an instantaneous, shared reading experience … “We have also made it very easy for them to buzz our books by spreading the word to their peers on other networks and sites.”
