Simon & Schuster to Launch the Salaam Reads Imprint

Salaam Reads Logo (GalleyCat)The executives at Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing will launch a new imprint called Salaam Reads. The focus behind this new venture will be to publish books that feature Muslim characters and Islamic stories.

Here’s more from the press release: “The imprint, which takes its name from the Arabic word for ‘peace,’ plans to publish books for young readers of all ages, including picture and chapter books, and middle–grade and young adult titles. Salaam Reads will reside within the larger Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers imprint, led by publisher Justin Chanda and executive editor Zareen Jaffery.”

The Salaam Reads team intends to release at least nine books on a yearly basis. The inaugural list for Salaam Reads will feature four debut children’s book authors: Salaam Alaikum by Harris J (picture book), Musa, Moises, Mo, and Kevin by H. A. Raz (picture book), Yo Soy Muslim by Mark Gonzales (picture book), and The Gauntlet of Blood and Sand by Karuna Riazi (middle grade).
