Simon & Schuster Offers Digital Galleys

s&slogo23.jpgEarlier this week, Simon & Schuster launched an electronic galleys program, giving reviewers and media folk the chance to read digital review copies at Galley Grab.

These brand new eGalleys are formatted as DRM protected PDFs, and can be read on a computer or device that supports Adobe Digital Editions, recent versions of the Sony Reader, the nook–but not the Kindle. Registration is initiated via email, and these special eGalley files will expire the day the book is published.

Chief digital officer Ellie Hirschhorn explained: “The world is becoming ever-more accepting of reading electronically, and we have been receiving an increasing number of requests for electronic review copies … While we do not expect this to entirely replace physical galleys in the near future, Galley Grab is a convenient, cost-effective, and environmentally-friendly way to promote our upcoming titles, and not least, help us to expand the universe of those who can now have the chance to read our books before publication.”
