Sheryl WuDunn Gives Commencement Speech

Sheryl WuDunn gave a commencement address for Rice University’s class of 2016. The video embedded above features the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author delivering a speech on how “sharing, caring are the real measures of success.”

Here’s an excerpt: “Skeptics know that we may not be able to solve the problems of global poverty or climate change or injustice or space colonization. Fair enough. But we can help individuals. And that’s a legitimate way of changing the world. It’s also a way of changing you.”

This year, a great number of writers have given moving commencement speeches. Hamilton: A Revolution co-author Lin-Manuel Miranda spoke at the University of Pennsylvania. Surgeon and writer Dr. Atul Gawande spoke at the California Institute of Technology. The Fault in Our Stars novelist John Green returned to his alma mater Kenyon College to speak.
