The British Royal Mint is casting new coins this year, some of which will feature imagery from Shakespeare plays and Beatrix Potter stories.
The new £2 coins will focus on the 400 year memorialization of William Shakespeare’s death. Three different coins will focus on the histories, comedies and tragedies of Shakespeare.
The Queen’s 90th Birthday and the Great Fire of London will also be featured on new coins this year, among other themes. “It is always exciting to see the new years’ designs revealed, commemorating the moments that matter, and revisiting some of the great events and stories from our history,” stated Anne Jessopp, director of commemorative coin at The Royal Mint.
