Dilbert creator Scott Adams wrote a blog post reflecting on why “powerful men have been behaving badly” recently–discussing a list of behaviors that included “tweeting, raping, cheating, and being offensive.” His controversial argument generated more than 800 negative votes on his own website.
Here’s an excerpt: “society is organized in such a way that the natural instincts of men are shameful and criminal while the natural instincts of women are mostly legal and acceptable … The way society is organized at the moment, we have no choice but to blame men for bad behavior. If we allowed men to act like unrestrained horny animals, all hell would break loose. All I’m saying is that society has evolved to keep males in a state of continuous unfulfilled urges, more commonly known as unhappiness. No one planned it that way. Things just drifted in that direction.”
What do you think? In April, MetaFilter users caught Adams posting anonymously poster on the popular discussion board. Using the screen name Plannedchaos, the cartoonist had defended his work against critics on the site.
