Save Harper’s Magazine Cause Launched on Facebook

By Jason Boog

As of this writing, 253 Facebook users have joined the new Save Harper’s Magazine cause on Facebook.

The independent movement aims to raise funds for the magazine. Earlier this week, we reported that 84 Harper’s Magazine writers and friends signed an open letter to publisher John “Rick” MacArthur supporting the unionization of the magazine’s staff and urging the publisher not to cut two editors. The publisher has since  defended his actions in another letter.

Here’s more from the Facebook page: “We wish [to show] Rick MacArthur how much money can be raised in just a few days via the extraordinarily useful medium of the Internet. Please pledge what you can and pass this on, with the assurance that all funds promised here will be offered, in friendship, to the Harper’s Magazine Foundation. If the pledges we garner are refused by the foundation, your generosity will cost you absolutely nothing; if accepted, they will help to sustain America’s oldest, and finest, monthly.”
