When J.D. Salinger sued in federal court to stop the publication of his unauthorized sequel to “The Catcher in the Rye,” his suit named everybody involved with the book–Windupbird Publishing (the UK distributors), Nicotext (the Swedish publisher), and SCB Distributors (the planned US distributors).
According to Courthouse News, the author seeks to have “publication enjoined, all copies of the book destroyed, damages and costs” in the “scathing” lawsuit. GalleyCat still wonders about a possible parody defense.
Publishers Weekly caught up with SCB Distributors president, Aaron Silverman, getting his thoughts on the lawsuit: “‘I got eight or nine e-mails from Salinger’s lawyers,’ he told PW. ‘[Salinger] doesn’t screw around with this stuff. Anyone else in the world would have just called us and asked us not to publish the book.'”
