Ripped from the Headlines… *Yawn*

Page Six reports this morning that Law & Order is taking on Judith Regan, with an script in development inspired by the initial If I Did It mishegoss. Except, of course, that the script isn’t based on anybody in real life, because this’ll be “a story in which a brash female publisher is found murdered after she backs out of a deal to release a tell-all book by a hot-tempered baseball great who was notoriously acquitted of murdering his wife.” And that’s completely different.

It’d be a lot easier to work up interest in this episode, though, if the Law & Order franchise hadn’t already depicted the murder of a Regan-like publisher shortly after the Bernie Kerik scandal broke (with a Jenna Jameson substitute thrown in for good measure), then tweaked the Kerik story slightly so they could run it again on L&O: Criminal Intent…which also once had a character talking to Regan herself on a cell phone. I mean, how many “brash female publishers” of Regan’s magnitude are we expected to believe exist in New York City?
