Readers Play Whack-a-Mole with ‘Writers Needed’ Spam

By Jason Boog

Readers have been blocking writer-focused Twitter spam all week, but GalleyCat reader Nobilis summed up the results: “Unfortunately, this is an ongoing game of spammer whack-a-mole. Every time one account gets shut down, they just make another one. Twitter needs to find a way to keep people from abusing the system.”

While the original “Writers Needed” and “Daily Writing Jobs” Twitter spam has died out, it has been replaced by an “Excellent Writers Needed” strain. All these links lead to Twitter searches, not the actual spam pages.

Until Twitter comes up with a better spam-fighting solution, it is still up to users to combat these phantom accounts.
