Workman director of children’s publishing Raquel Jaramillo will step down and now serve as editor-at-large.
Publishers Weekly reported that Jaramillo (pictured, via),, made this decision to devote more time to her writing projects– she writes under the pseudonym R.J. Palacio. Her middle-grade novel Wonder has become a New York Times bestseller.
A number of publishers and organizations have also announced changes within their staff this past week.
Gail Gonzales will take Simon & Schuster’s newly created post of director of integrated marketing. She will report to Liz Perl, senior vice president of marketing.
The Book Industry Charitable Foundation added three new board members: former Borders buyer Matthew Gildea, Independent Booksellers Consortium executive director Lori Tucker-Sullivan and McLean & Eakin Booksellers owner Matt Norcross.
Hyperion Books, an imprint acquired by Hachette Book Group USA, named two new executives: Martha Levin and Betsy Hulsebosch. Levin will serve as acting publisher; she will retain this position for at least six months. Hulsebosch will take on the role of associate director of marketing and publicity.
Two staff members at PublicAffairs have received promotions. Lindsay Fradkoff has been made associate director of marketing and Emily Lavelle is now publicity manager.
Michael Boezi has been hired as vice president and minister of strategy at an online publishing startup called Libboo. In the past, he has worked at Pearson Education and John Wiley & Sons.
