Rainn Wilson To Write ‘Serio-Comic Examination of my Life in Art, Faith & Comedy’

The Office star and author Rainn Wilson has landed a book deal to write what he calls a “Serio-Comic Examination of my Life in Art, Faith and Comedy.”

Penguin Group’s Dutton imprint will publish the as-yet-untitled book they bill as a “memoir” (in quotation marks) about how Wilson grew up “bone-numbingly nerdy before there was even a modicum of cool attached to the word.”

Richard Abate of 3 Arts Entertainment negotiated the deal with executive editor Jill Schwartzman.

Wilson had this statement:

Despite what my publisher might say, I wouldn’t call my book a memoir. If I were in my eighties, had cured a disease and survived a war, I would be entitled to write a memoir. No. The guy who is best known for playing a paper salesman with a bad haircut, tweeting fart jokes and starting a quirky spirituality website does not merit a ‘memoir’. For the time being, let’s call it a ‘Serio-Comic Examination of my Life in Art, Faith and Comedy. And beets.

Wilson published SoulPancake: Chew on Life’s Big Questions with Hyperion in 2010. He also has more than 3.6 million Twitter followers and runs the SoulPancake website.
