Publisher Sales Down 6.7% in January: AAP Snapshot

Publishers book sales for trade books were down 6.7 percent percent in January 2016 as compared to January 2015, dropping from $1.06 billion to $991.7 million.

These metrics include sales data for trade, religious, K-12 instructional materials, higher education course materials, professional publishing, and university presses). AAP tracks sales from more than 1,200 publishers.

Publisher sales of trade books were down 13.7 percent in January 2016 hitting $488 million. Adult book sales were down 12.9 percent dropping from $389.2 million during the same time frame last year to $338.9 million in January 2016. Childrens /YA Books were down 20.4 percent. E-books were down almost 25 percent during the month compared to 2015.
