Screen Shot 2013-11-22 at 10.13.18 AMSylvia Browne, a self-described psychic who authored more than 50 books, passed away on Friday morning in San Jose, CA. She was 77 years old.

Browne was the author of 22 New York Times bestsellers, according to her website. She frequently appeared as a guest on Larry King Live and The Montel Williams Show.

“I, like so many of you, lost a friend today,” wrote Williams on Browne’s website. “But, as has been for the last twenty years, she’ll always remain a part of me. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sylvia’s family in this time of loss.”

Browne collaborated with the police on missing persons cases, and claimed to have spoken to the dead. Browne’s predictions were often inaccurate, and stirred up controversy. In 2006, on the Montel Williams Show, she told Amanda Berry’s mother that her missing daughter was dead. Sadly, when Berry was discovered earlier this year, her mother had passed away. The Huffington Post also points out that Browne told Larry King that she, herself would die at 88, another inaccurate estimate. (Via NPR Books).
