Podcasting Tips for Authors

twitter_logo_bigger.jpgWith free podcasting tools online, it has never been easier for authors, readers, and publishers to run their own literary radio shows–from The Bat Segundo Show to podcasts at Tor.com.

Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu was Ken Freedman, station manager at the listener-supported radio station, WFMU. After talking about his station’s annual fundraiser and free music archive, Freedman delivered some podcasting tips for authors.

Here’s an excerpt: “Use a good microphone. I think that’s one of the most important things…I also think it’s very important, just like everything on the web, to put out content on a regular basis–whether it’s every day or every week. If it’s sporatic, then it’s very difficult to pick up an audience and develop traffic. Unlike radio where you have to put out an hour show or a three-hour show, the great thing about podcasting is the show can be any length–but it has to be put out on a regular, strict basis so the audience knows when to expect it.”
