Amalgam (GalleyCat)Ariell R. Johnson has opened a diversity-centered comic bookstore and coffee shop called Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse. In an interview with the Philadelphia City Paper, she spoke about her passion for geek culture, comics, and baking.

Johnson plans to stock her store with comics from both high-profile publishers and smaller independent publishers. According to Philly.com, she “hopes to build community around comics, coffee, and relaxing with friends, and also through hosting geeky and diversity-themed workshops, movie/TV screenings, book signings, and BYOB nights.”

This business has the distinction of being “the first black female-owned comic book shop to open its doors on the East Coast.” It can be found in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. (via The Mary Sue)
