Personal Comments on Reddit Drive Sales

By Jason Boog

Have you ever paid for an online ad or sponsored post to promote your book? One author found success by personally writing to every single reader who responded to his sponsored post.

Self-published author H.A. Goodman took out a sponsored ad on Reddit for a 99-cent sale on his fantasy eBook. Instead of ignoring reader comments, Goodman logged into Reddit and answered every single comment with a personal message–creating a massive 61-comment thread for the sponsored post.

Check it out: “pricing the ebook at 99¢ has helped with sales tremendously. I have a paperback that’s around ten bucks, but I only care about my ebook sales in this day and age, since Amazon has taken enormous control of the the literary industry. I also have a nook and iTunes version, but I really only concern myself with the Kindle sales, which have been doing well – in large part due to my Reddit ad and to this amazing Reddit community. The literary industry is changing rapidly, and every year all publishers – from big to small – learn that marketing and sales techniques change exponentially.”

Follow this link for more information on how to buy a sponsored link on Reddit. Here is how it works:

Advertisers may bid on certain available advertising space to be displayed on Reddit.com. The size and placement of the advertisements shall be offered and determined by Reddit.com on a case by case basis. Bids must range between a minimum of $20.00 per day bid on and a maximum of $9,999.99. Bids will be accepted by Reddit.com no more than sixty (60) calendar days (and no less than two (2) business days) in advance of the requested advertising display date. A single bid submitted for an advertisement to appear on Reddit.com for more than one (1) day (but not more than sixty (60) days), shall be equally divided among the days requested. For example, if an Advertiser bids $200.00 over a four (4) day period, then such Advertiser will be placing a $50.00 bid for each of the four (4) days. For the purpose of clarification, single bids (of at least $20.00) must amount to a minimum of $20.00 per day when applied to more than one (1) day.
