Parenting Advice from Jane Friedman

When HarperCollins CEO Jane Friedman is usually interviewed, she’s talking about spreading digital control…er, love to all parts of the HarperCollins world, or about the company’s new plans. But Modern Mom exposes the softer side of Friedman and how she balanced moving up the publishing ladder with raising two children from her first marriage as well as two step-children (fathered by her longtime partner, Jeff Stone.) Her advice to young working moms is fairly standard: “you do not have to be superhuman. Just ‘Have Faith. You can do it.'” But she also advises them to “forget about sleeping. I have not slept through the night for 31 years. Also, for sure, hire a smart and kind caregiver.” Since, in Friedman’s case, she hired one for 3 months and the woman stayed for 26 years…
