Out of Print Raises More Than $29K on Kickstarter for Specialty eReader Jackets

By Maryann Yin

Out of Print sells clothing that showcases iconic book cover art, but they hope to expand with a new product line of eReader jackets–raising more than $29,000 on Kickstarter.

With this new venture, the company will outfit eReaders (iPad 2/3, Kindle Fire and Nexus 7) with cases featuring some of the most beloved cover designs from 10 classic titles: The Great Gatsby, Pride & Prejudice, Invisible Man, Slaughterhouse-Five, A Clockwork Orange, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Moby Dick, Lolita, On the Road and Atlas Shrugged. Customers can also opt for a case featuring one of four solid colors (charcoal, red, evergreen, indigo).

Here’s more about the project: “Made by the oldest bookbinder in the U.S., our cases are the first to look, feel and wear like an actual book. Each hardcover case features original book cover art licensed by Out of Print, printed on book fabric that will naturally wear and look better the more you use it. Inside our case, your eBook device is well-protected with a form-fitting cradle (designed by an MIT mechanical engineer) with design elements that allow for easy access to all important buttons and ports.”
