I really like that publishers are starting to feature more and more lead characters that are people of color. Such is the case of S. Terrell French’s book Operation Redwood (Amulet). It features an Asian-American boy who intercepts an email message meant for his high-powered uncle and ends up wrapped up in a fight to save some of the oldest trees in the world.
French, a Harvard graduate, has brought her love for the environment to the page in an attempt to get young readers involved, interested, and become just as passionate about the subject in a storyline that kids should find captivating.
