The New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building library shop currently features a “Book Pickings” window display. Brain Pickings blogger Maria Popova curated the display.
Popova enlisted artist Kelli Anderson to create 3-D sculptures of several beloved books. Some of the books spotlighted in this display include George Orwell’s Why I Write, Andrew Zuckerman’s Creature, and Maira Kalman’s What Pete Ate From A-Z.
In a Brain Pickings article, Popova explained her thought process behind choosing the books featured in this project:
My original thought was to do a single reading list around a specific theme, much like I had been doing for the TED bookstore. But my chronic maximalism soon kicked in — the single reading list swelled into four reading lists (wisdom on writing, great reads about New York City, heart- and brain-stirring books on pets and animals, and timeless treats for young readers) and the simple tabletop display became an elaborate installation in the bookstore’s main window.
