New Jersey Tween Lauches #1000blackgirlbooks

By Dianna Dilworth

Sick of finding books about white boys and dogs at her school library, New Jersey preteen Marley Dias launched the #1000blackgirlbooks project.

The social media campaign is an outreach program designed to collect 1000 books that feature black girls as the main characters. Supporters are encouraged to send donations or books with narratives featuring black girls to:

GrassROOTS Community Foundation

59 Main Street, Suite 323

West Orange, New Jersey

07052

Supporters can also share the hashtag on social networks.

The books will be donated to Retreat Primary and Junior School and Library in the parish of St. Mary, Jamaica where her mother grew up. Follow this link for more details.
