Over the last two months, representatives from independent bookstores across New York City have been meeting with each other to discuss ways in which they can work together—two weeks ago, I’m told, they formally declared their organization as The Independent Booksellers of New York City. (This picture’s from their inaugural summit, held in May.) Their mission isn’t expected to kick into high gear until early autumn, most likely, but they’ve already identified some of their key goals, according to Book Culture events and marketing manager Kelly Amabile: “establishing a web presence, creating a logo and developing a map that includes all the independent bookstores of the five boroughs.”

I’m looking forward to learning more about this initiative in the weeks and months to come!
