But before I get to who they are, can someone please tell me what the hell’s up with that photograph of Nicole Aragi (left)? I mean, is it supposed to signify that she answers to a higher power when she does big deals? Any insight would be fabulous.

Otherwise, the “influential” list is pretty cut and dry: B&N fiction buyer Sesalee Hensley (who does strike fear in the hearts of mortal writers and publishers) Doubleday’s Steve Rubin, Crown’s Steve Ross (who gets bigger points for the Plame Deal) HarperCollins’ Jane Friedman, and Messrs Gladwell and Lethem, who I guess make sense to list but I would have gone with the fiction & non-fic buyers at Wal-Mart…
