New Age Goes Hi-Tech

A company called Moka LLC has announced a program called Moka mBooks that’ll send “the essential ideas from books in concise 160-character or less messages optimized for SMS messaging” to your cellphone, PDA, or email. The titles in the launch inventory include many of the world’s religious classics, like the Bible, the Koran and the Tao Te Ching, as well as cornerstone philosophical texts from Plato, Aristotle, and Kant, along with the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. Most of the books from the 20th century, though, come from the mind-body-spirit wing of the self-help section, with authors like Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, Sylvia Browne, and Shakti Gawain representative of the field.

So what’ll you do with all those text messages? “For the first time ever, consumers will now be able to integrate the teachings of their favorite authors and books into their daily life,” says Moka prez Diego Winegardner in the press release. Thank goodness for cellular technology; now that consumers can integrate the teachings of their favorite authors and books into their daily life, maybe some of these religious ideas can finally gain some traction in our culture. Then maybe we can create text-message versions of Breaking the Spell and The God Delusion to counteract them…
