Turn Your Computer Into a Typewriter: NaNoWriMo Tip #23

By Jason Boog

As we enter the penultimate week of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), you need to reduce distractions. The free Q10 program will convert your distracting computer into an old-fashioned typewriter–focused by real typing sounds and disconnected from the Internet.

Here are some of the features: “Live text statistics–Word, page and character counts are updated live as you type … Easy to use timer alarm–Perfect for timed writing sessions and word wars. When the time is over, it will tell you how many words you wrote in that period … Typing sound effects–Get that typewriter feeling again. For the trivia lovers among you, the typing sounds were taken from the movie Amelie.”

You can still save your file and edit later on a different program–the best part of having a real computer. This is our twenty-third NaNoWriMo Tip of the Day. As writers around the country join the writing marathon this month, we will share one piece of advice or writing tool to help you cope with this daunting project.
