NAL’s New Mystery Imprint

I should have known that when New American Library hired former Mysterious Press editorial director Kristen Weber almost a year ago to spearhead its mystery program that a separate imprint was in the works. And indeed, that’s exactly what happened, as a press release issued yesterday morning reveals that NAL will launch Obsidian Mysteries this fall with Weber at the helm. “We’ve been publishing extraordinary mysteries for years, and this seemed like the perfect time to bring them all together under one imprint,” NAL Vice President and Publisher Kara Welsh said. “Featuring a wide range of titles, Obsidian Mysteries will please readers of all tastes, who can continue to expect great entertainment from us in the years ahead.”

The new imprint, a mix of original titles, tie-ins and reissues, will kick off with Alison Gaylin‘s standalone thriller TRASHED, the further adventures of Jessica Fletcher and Adrian Monk in book form (written by Donald Bain and Lee Goldberg, respectively) and a new historical mystery series title by C.S. Harris.
