Mother-Daughter Art Book Featured On Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

Illustrator Mica Angela Hendricks hopes to raise $20,000 on Kickstarter to create a hardcover book featuring the artistic collaborations between herself and her 4-year-old daughter Myla.

In 2013, Mica encouraged Myla to contribute doodles to her face drawings. After Mica posted their finished pieces on her blog, Busy Mockingbird, the whimsical images went viral. We’ve embedded a video about the project above. Here’s more from the Kickstarter page:

“Although we got a few publishing nibbles, we never got any real ‘bites…’ They all ultimately said the illustrations were ‘too strange,’ or ‘unsellable.’ They just couldn’t figure out a way to market it for mass production. Well, I’m not interested in mass production. I just want to share something strange and fun, and put something GOOD into the world.”
