Mockingjay Midnight Release Parties

By Maryann Yin

Tonight, bookstores around the country will celebrate the midnight release of Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series. In the video embedded above, Collins reads from Mockingjay.

Books of Wonder, the independent book store specializing in children’s books will have Collins herself on site for their party tonight. Books of Wonder is located in New York City with the party set to begin at 8pm and lasting until 1:30am. The website says: “At 11:30pm, best-selling author and one of the editors of the Hunger Games trilogy, David Leviathan, will answer questions about the editorial process for the Hunger Games trilogy, then shortly before midnight he will introduce Suzanne Collins, who will read the opening of Mockingjay.”

In another borough of NYC, Brooklyn’s Word Bookstore is hosting a party targeting adult Hunger Games fans. How can you tell this isn’t for kids? Their website boasts that they will offer: “booze (perhaps a signature Haymitch cocktail?) and homemade bread (go Team Peeta!).” This event does require a pre-ordered ticket, but you can still put your name down on the waiting list. Festivities are set to start at 11pm.

Powell Books (located in Portland, OR) is starting their party at 9pm. There will be costume contest, trivia, games, and Mockingjay sold promptly at midnight. Instead of partying it up at the frat house, students of Kansas State University will be gathering at the K-State Student Union’s First Floor Concourse. The college’s own midnight Hunger Games celebration will begin at 11pm. Copies of the book will be distributed at midnight.
