Focus Features has tapped Oscar-nominated director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) to helm an adaptation of The Tiger by John Vaillant.

Babel screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga wrote the script. Random House’s Knopf imprint published the nonfiction title in August 2010. The book recounts the story of Russian village’s encounter with a man-eating tiger.

Here’s more from Deadline: “This film was set up originally as a directing vehicle for Darren Aronofsky, who stepped off the project to direct the Russell Crowe-starrer Noah. Brad Pitt produces with Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B and Aronofsky is producing with Protozoa cohorts Mark Heyman and Ari Handel.”
