Michael Gross Needs A Photo of the Met, Stat!

In the two years that Michael Gross has been working on Rogues’ Gallery, his behind-the-scenes look at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he’s dealt with attempts to thwart his interviews and a competing oral history. And now, according to last weekend’s Liz Smith column, museum officials won’t even let him have a picture of the facade for the book jacket, denying him access to the Met’s photo archives.

I’m not sure what the fuss is about: Heck, I could probably stand across the street and take the picture; you could, too! (Then again, do I really want to get up early enough to get there before the hot dog vendors and the breakdancers out front?) Well, since the Met clearly isn’t going to sell Gross the picture he needs, perhaps some enterprising photographer will read this blog and offer to help him out…
