mediabistro.com Book Club Rides Again

By Jason Boog

0912_bookclub_150x100.jpgYou can read all the online book reviews in the world, but nothing beats real-world conversations between readers and authors. In an ongoing effort to build community among readers, writers, and publishing types in real life, we are hosting our second mediabistro.com Book Club tonight (May 12th) at Underbar in New York City.

Follow this link to RSVP. The after-work party will feature an urban fantasy novel, a travel memoir, a time-management tome, and a social media handbook. These four authors were handpicked to include a wide range of subjects, genres, and publishing experience–giving book club participants a night of practical and entertaining conversation.

This installment will feature tons of free book giveaways for attendees, and this GalleyCat editor will be on hand to discuss GalleyCat Reviews and our Literary Remix contest. More information about the Book Club authors follows after the jump.

Jennifer Abernethy, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Social Media Marketing: “Instead of opting for the blatant and outdated billboard type of advertising, those who make use of social media’s dynamic dialogue will personally connect with their desired audience-and win their product or service the attention it deserves.”

Carl Hoffman, author of The Lunatic Express: “[He] traveled 159 days in 2008 and 2009 for The Lunatic Express … He is a contributing editor at National Geographic Traveler, Wired and Popular Mechanics magazines, and his stories about travel, adventure and technology — and often the nexus between them — also appear frequently in Outside, National Geographic Adventure and Men’s Journal.”

Laura Vanderkam, author of 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think: “[She] draws on her own experience and the stories of other successful people who have fulfilled their goals by allocating their time according to these principles. It is a fun, inspiring, and practical guide that will help men and women of any age, lifestyle, or career get the most out of the time and their lives.”

Susan Wright, author of Confessions of a Demon: “After accidentally stealing the life force from a dying demon, Allay became the only human-demon hybrid in existence. Because demons feed off of human emotions, Allay decided the safest way to live as a demon and still retain some semblance of humanity would be to open a bar and drink from her patrons’ pain and torment.”
