Yesterday, author Markus Zusak and filmmaker Brian Percival (pictured, via) appeared in New York City to promote The Book Thief movie adaptation. During the event, they answered questions, showed the trailer, and shared film clips.

For Zusak, his main mission as a writer is to “write so much like me that no one else could have told that story. For better or worse.” While working as a teacher, Zusak encouraged his students to adopt this philosophy. What do you think?

Zusak feels that The Book Thief focuses on the idea that “we’re made of many things, but one of the most important things we’re made of are stories.” He also revealed that he has been working on a manuscript for the past six years, but needs to “stop mucking around” and finish it.

Fox 2000 released The Book Thief film on November 8, 2013. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has already started to generate Oscar buzz.
