Marjane Satrapi Testifies about Election in Iran

satrapi.jpgIranian writer Marjane Satrapi delivered a report to the European parliament–purportedly proof that Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi won the recent election with more than 19 million votes.

Adnkronos International reports that Satrapi, the author of the celebrated Persepolis graphic novels, joined an Iranian filmmaker in presenting the document. According to their report, Iranian cleric Mehdi Karroubi earned 13.3 million votes while president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad only had 5.49 million votes.

Here’s more from the article: “However, there is no certainty about the legitimacy of the document. ‘Ahmadinejad received only 12 percent of the vote, not 65 percent,’ said Marjane Satrapi, who was the director of Oscar-nominated film Persepolis.” (Link via Joy Press, self-portrait via)
