Malala Yousafzai Gets Support From Readers Around the World

By Jason Boog

Readers around the world have shared pictures of themselves with a book, showing solidarity Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai. You can post your photo at Girl With a Book Facebook page too.

Earlier this year, Yousafzai survived an assassination attempt–nearly murdered for her quest to get an education in a Taliban-controlled region. Readers can post pictures of themselves reading a book on the Facebook page or email the organizers.

Here’s more from the site: “Malala Yousafzai was on her way home from school when Taliban gunmen stopped her school bus, asked for her by name, and then shot her in the head and neck along with two of her classmates.  In 2009 the then 11 year old began blogging for BBC Urdu about her struggle to receive an education in the Taliban controlled Swat Valley of Pakistan … We stand with Malala, and all women and girls worldwide fighting for their fundamental right of education.”

Yousafzai is recovering from her wounds. If you want to learn more about her story, watch the New York Times video below…
